St Mary’s College PLC
Connected learning environments for contemporary primary education

Project Overview
The new Primary Learning Centre (PLC) provides six contemporary classrooms, a central gathering space, staff amenities, support spaces and a large north-facing veranda designed to extend learning beyond the classroom.
The project created a series of clear, functional and highly usable learning environments that support a range of teaching and learning activities. In addition to the classroom spaces, the building includes breakout and support areas together with direct access to outdoor learning and play spaces.

A key focus of the design was the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor environments. The large veranda acts as a central connecting element across the building and incorporates an indoor/outdoor wet area used for a variety of learning and play activities throughout the school day. A new primary play space located immediately north of the veranda further extends opportunities for outdoor use and connection.

The completed facility provides a warm, durable and flexible learning environment that supports day-to-day school activities while creating a strong sense of openness, movement and connection between learning, play and community. ROAM has since delivered a broader masterplan for St Mary’s College.
